Definition: Holistic Health
The whole health approach in life. The complete health perspective that incorporates the mind, body and spirit in creating a health diagnostic and implementation system.
Overview
Mind
There are many aspects to this part of a whole person’s health. The mind is a complex thing but it could be broken down into the emotional health, the psychological health and the social health. All three aspects of the self affect the overall mental well being of a person and the healthiness of a person’s ability to cope with the wider world.
Body
The traditional aspect that people tend to focus on. This part incorporates the nutritional, physical and sleeping aspects of the self. They are very inter-related and if one is off it can affect the entire rhythm of a person.
Spirit
The least focused on but ultimately the most important. Spiritual health is often associated with the connectedness or discontent that people feel with their purpose and existence within this life. It can be seen as how well the subconscious desires and wants is in alignment with the conscious decisions and perspectives on experience.
These three components ultimately are all interconnected. If one falls out of alignment then it will affect the entirety of the self. Therefore, holistic health focuses on the whole health of a person and the inter-related nature of the person as a whole.
